It is likely that the US Embassy’s advanced C-RAM systems, designed to counter aerial threats in the Green Zone, were on alert or activated during the attack.
Previous attacks on the embassy, dating back to 2020, were perceived as attempts by pro-Iranian militants to exert pressure on American and NATO troops to leave Iraq. Despite the continued presence of thousands of Western personnel in the country, with the largest concentration in the north, particularly in the Iraqi Kurdistan region’s Erbil, tensions have persisted.
