    Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Files Impeachment Resolution Against DHS Secretary Mayorkas Over Immigration Failures


    In a bold move, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has filed an impeachment resolution against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, citing “high crimes and misdemeanors” related to the Biden administration’s alleged failure to prevent an influx of immigrants illegally entering the United States.

    The resolution accuses Mayorkas of deviating from his sworn oath to defend and secure the country and uphold the Constitution as Secretary of Homeland Security. Greene contends that Mayorkas has engaged in a pattern of conduct inconsistent with U.S. laws.     Furthermore, the resolution references the Secure Fence Act of 2006, which requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to maintain operational control over the entire international land and maritime borders of the United States. Greene argues that Mayorkas has willfully allowed border crossers, terrorists, human traffickers, drugs, and contraband to enter the country, thereby violating the Secure Fence Act.

    The resolution points to reports indicating that over 10 million illegal immigrants have entered the U.S. during Mayorkas’ tenure. This figure includes 8 million encounters at the southern border and an additional 1.8 million “gotaways,” individuals who successfully evaded U.S. border officials and remain in the country, originating from countries such as Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Egypt, Turkey, and others.

    Greene also accuses Mayorkas of failing to prevent the flow of fentanyl into the United States through the southern border. Notably, Customs and Border Patrol seized approximately 11,200 pounds of fentanyl in 2021 and an additional 14,700 pounds in 2022. The resolution emphasizes the devastating impact of fentanyl, with over 70,000 Americans reportedly dying from fentanyl in fiscal year 2022, making it the leading cause of death for individuals between the ages of 18 and 45. The alarming statistic underscores the urgency of addressing the issue, as approximately 300 Americans are said to die daily from fentanyl poisoning.

    The resolution contends that despite the substantial amount of seized fentanyl at the border, the unseized quantity remains a significant concern, contributing to the ongoing crisis. Greene’s move to file an impeachment resolution reflects the escalating tension and scrutiny surrounding immigration policies and border security under the Biden administration. The resolution outlines a series of alleged failures by Secretary Mayorkas, suggesting a serious breach of duty and accountability issues within the Department of Homeland Security.
